Suspect Scott #348, Used Single (1/21/17).
This is a moderately priced stamp with a catalogue value of $50.00. This coil is often faked and can be manufactured from the following stock: adding fake perforations to a trimmed imperforate #343, adding fake perforations to the imperforate vertical coil #343V, trimming the perforations off the left and/or right of a perforated #331 and trimming the perforations from the left or right of the #331a booklet stamps. A check of the watermark shows a double line “S”, reversed, inverted orientation, in the bottom right corner and the corresponding “P” or “U” in the upper right corner. The watermark reads horizontal which eliminates the possibility of the suspect being a booklet single.
The width of the suspect is 20.958mm at the top and 20.687mm at the bottom which is considerably narrower than the ideal 21.5mm +/- 0.3mm width. The edges are rough and wavy but show no obvious signs of perforation remains.
The images below show the suspect’s perforations overlaid on genuine #331 perforations. The perforations show good signs of being genuine.
Conclusion: In my opinion the suspect is a Scott #331 with the perforations trimmed off the left and right edges. Reference material used:
