Suspect Scott #352, Used Single (6/1/19).
The Scott #352, Double Line Watermarked, Perf 12 Vertically, Flat Plate Press Horizontal Coil. This is a moderately priced stamp with a catalogue value of $200.00. This coil is often faked and can be made from a #343 by adding counterfeit perforations to the left and right, from a #343H imperforate horizontal coil by adding counterfeit perforations to the left and right, and from a #331 by trimming the perforations off the top and/or bottom. A check of the watermark reveals an inverted normal double line “S” at the top and a fragment of the stem of a “P” at the bottom that reads horizontal which eliminates the possibility of a #331a booklet single being used to make the suspect.
The height of the suspect is 24. 5mm at the left and right, very much shorter than the ideal height of 25mm +/- 0.3mm but according to The Experts Book height is not a determining factor for the #352. The top edge is wavy while the bottom edge is rough but straight and parallel with the frame - it may be a natural straight edge.
Below is a comparison of the suspect’s perforations against the known good perforations of a Scott #331. As can be seen from the images below the suspects left and right perfs match the known genuine perforations. The perforations show the signs of being genuine.
Conclusion: In my opinion that the suspect is a Scott #331 with the perforations trimmed off the top edge, the bottom edge is a natural straight. Reference material used:
