PF Certificate #179794 is now a single instead of a pair.

While searching eBay for any new #356 paste-ups I ran across a listing that showed the left hand stamp of PF Certificate #179794 being sold.  The listing included images of the back of the stamp showing the paste-up as well as an image of the original PF certificate as a pair.  The image below shows the original pair.

The two images below show the front and back of the stamp as it appears now in the eBay listing.

PF Certificate #179794 as single

PF opinion states: "And we are of the opinion that it is genuine, previously hinged reperforated at left and with paste-up paper adhering on that side"

Whereas I wrote, based on the PF certificate database photo "Not positive but cert image leads me to believe that the paste-up orientation is right over left.  Other possibilities are that this is an example of a BEP repair splice or remains a leader/trailer strip - would need to get a first-hand look at the pair to be sure."

The seller describes the stamp as follows: "Condition: fresh and rare coil stamp with paste-up leader/trailer paper as shown...While I do not feel this is reperfed, as always I go with the cert... "

After looking at the eBay photos the original left hand side of the stamp was a straight edge before the counterfeit perforations were added.  I believe the original orientation of this coil was Right over Left, the same as census #11.  Also of note is the color of the paste-up remain which is a manila color and not the white color of stamp paper.  It is very possible that the paste-up remain on the back is leader/trailer paper.  I also believe the PF certificate when it comes to the perforations on the left hand side.  To me they are too round, slightly bigger than the right hand perfs and match the stamps perfs too well.

Though not a true paste-up joint this is still a wonderful example of how the coil was manufactured back in 1909.

As always comments and suggestions are always welcome.
