Scott #356 Paste-Up Census. This is a census of all known Scott #356 paste-ups that I created by searching through the Philatelic Foundations certificate database, the American Philatelic Expertizing Service certificate database, four major auction houses that have searches through thier sales lots and general Google searches around the internet. The census includes examples with opinions of both genuine and fake. The hunt goes on for more examples and will be added to the end census as I find them. The numbering sysem I'm using is based off of the system used by Siegel Auctions to census all of the known Scott #356 used pairs and multiples. The breakdown of the census number is as follows: 356PU-CAN/UNU-SNGL/PR/STR-Census Number where CAN = Canceled (used), UNU = Unused, SNGL = Single, PR = Pair and STR = Strip of Three or more. The census begins with the oldest paste-up in the PF certificate database to the newest paste-up in the PF certificate database next come the oldest to the newest paste-ups found in the APEX certificate database and finally paste-ups with PSE certificates found in auction lots. Any new finds going forward will be added to the end of the census in the order thay are found. I will update the older PF certificate images with better ones as I find them in the future As of 7/15/18 I have found a total of 22 unique examples of the Scott #356 paste-up joints of which 17 come from the PF certificate database alone (15 are certified genuine and 2 are deemed fakes), three are from APEX (two is certified genuine and one is deemed a fake) and two are from PSE. One paste-up has a split opinion with APEX saying it is genuine and a new PF certificate saying it is not genuine. There are five paste-ups with the plate #4944 on the tab, three are known with part of the imprint on the tab, one is known to have a blank tab and the rest are it is unknown what, if anything, is on the tab. I've made height measurements of all the paste-ups in the census, click here to see a table of all the measurements. Click on the small images below to see full size front and back (if available) images of the paste-ups along with any certificate opinions associated with the stamp, paste-up orientation and what if anything is on the tab, estimated height measurements, auction history (if any), and other relevent notes. A link to my article in The United States Specialist is here. United States Stamp Society is dedicated to research and scholarship of all stamps produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. To be able to read through all of the The United States Specialists the society has published is well worth the modest cost of membership.
