PF Certificate #209479 Evidence of Alteration. While searching for Scott #356 paste-ups in auction websites I ran across a Kelleher Auction that had sold a paste-up single described as having a "1989 P.F. certificate". The image below is image shown on the Kelleher Auction lot description.
After looking through EBay for PF certificates with known dates I was able to determine that the PF certificate referenced in the Kelleher Auction lot had to be #209479 but there was a problem - the PF certificate image did not match the Kelleher Auction lot image.
So to make sure the Kelleher Auction stamp was actually went with PF certificate #209479 I manipulated each image to make them both square and the same size. I then overlayed the Kelleher Auction lot image over the PF certificate image and found that indeed the were one in the same stamp.
In the image above the Kelleher Auction stamp has had it's color inverted to make it easier to see it against the white of the PF certificate image. As can be seen the the Kelleher Auction stamp is a perf for perf match for the PF certificate stamp. Sometime between 1989and 2013 the extra material to the left of the #4 through #7 perforations was removed as well as the hinge material that ran all the way to the top of the stamp. Most likely this was done to improve the appearance of the stamp. As always comments and suggestions are always welcome. To Contact Riverside Stamps:
